History of MTD Snowblowers
MTD, or Modern Tool and Die Company, was founded in 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio. As the name suggests, MTD began as a manufacturer for Tool and Die products and machinery pieces. As time has progressed, MTD has shifted focus and production towards outdoor power equipment, including snowblowers and snow throwers, for both homes and larger scale businesses and agricultural purposes.
Besides the main MTD snowblowers and brand name products, MTD has acquired many other manufacturers over the last several decades. This began in 1975, when MTD acquired Yard-Man from Montgomery Ward. Following that, in 1981 MTD acquired Cub Cadet, and in 2001, MTD acquired the Troy-Bilt and Bolens brands, including Troy Bilt snowblowers and Bolens snowblower products.
Along the way there were many other acquisitions of other outdoor power equipment companies, either for brand name recognition, manufacturing capabilities or expansion into new product areas and markets.
